Sumatran orangutans are classed as "Critically Endangeredby the IUCN, the World Conservation Union. Habitat loss and poaching are pushing them towards imminent extinction. Every minute, every day an area equal to six football fields of Indonesian forest disappears! The population of wild Sumatran orangutans has declined drastically from over 12,000 in 1994 to 7,300 in 2003. Orangutans were historically found in forests across Sumatra but are now restricted to North Sumatra and Aceh provinces. There are less than 900,000 hectares of suitable orangutan habitat remaining on Sumatra.
THE BRIEF
The organisation has an existing site but the revamp will drastically improve its look and feel, navigation and user experience while remaining true to its primary target market of current and potential donors. It will also be visited by members and supporters and people looking to find out about Orangutan conservation in general therefore must be a fantastic resource of all the organisations information with the ability to really grow and expand.
SOS's focus is on helping local people and local governments to secure a sustainable future for the forest ecosystem, and we use the orangutan as a "flagship" or ambassador for this message therefore the site will have to reflect this through appropriate imagery.
To find out more about the organisation or how you can help, you can view the current site here but keep an eye out for the new tictoc site launching soon.
