It's all about the music, man…

One of the best things about working in the creative industry is the generally more relaxed nature of the offices; jeans & t-shirts instead of shirt & tie and getting to listen to music pretty much all day long!

A couple of days ago a link went around the 'net showing how to create a nice wee visualisation of your listening habits based on your Last.fm profile (here's our Last.fm profile page) which straight away just about all of us did!

It seems that we listen to quite a wide variety of music although the big winners are Boards of Canada, Blur and Belle & Sebastian.

  • Happy Flant Day!

    Happy Flant Day!

It is Flying Ant Day here in Glasgow - fly, ants, fly! I can assure you this is a real phenomenon, Wikipedia even has an entry about it, so it must be true!

  • Heads Down, Thumbs Up

Fiona reminded us all of the joys of school games - it did in fact come from Paul playing "chappie" on the girls last week which I knew as "ring-a-bell-skoosh" i.e. knock the door, Fi runs to answer it while Paul hotfoots it back upstairs giggling like a wee boy!!

One that we all seem to remember well is Heads Down Thumbs up (see pic - that's what Fiona's doing!) where you all put your heads down and your thumbs up and had to guess who had put your thumbs down!!

The other one I remember is British Bulldogs - outlawed across the land for its danger level!

    Anyone got any others??

  • Olden days

    Olden days

Colin's parents found a picture of Newton Terrace in the good ole days. It was in a book, possibly an old book - sorry I can't be more specific. Anyway, it shows the other end of Newton Terrace (home of tictoc's Glasgow office) which used to belong to Henry Samuel & Sons, furriers. Cue much excitement about Newton Terrace being the birthplace of the high street chain of jewellers (furs and diamonds are both luxury goods after all), but a little research on Wikipedia showed us this was unlikely. Ho hum.

  • Balloons and top hats

    Balloons and top hats

We regularly hold Friday afternoon "Show and Tell" sessions whereby we all share and discuss interesting projects we've been working on, designing, developing or just generally sharing stories of the daily goings on in the tictoc Family.

Following last Fridays session, we thought it was time we shared a few social drinkies to welcome new members to the team and generally practice the incredibly complex and somewhat frustrating art of balloon character creating!

Tom kindly brought top hats along (which are marshmallows dipped in chocolate with a blob on the top then topped with a smartie for those who didn't know!) and party bags were provided by Alan. It was a close call as to who won the"bounce the balls highest" competition but Mr Beddard was the clear winner in the "whizzing balloons reaching the top of the stairwell" race!

I'm thinking about the art of Japanese Bonsai as a theme for the next night - thoughts anyone???

  • Mel the Great

We're rather proud of the fact that our very own first lady, Mel, has been nominated in the Top 50 Most Powerful Women in the Scottish Media Industry by The Drum magazine. Keep your eye's peeled on The Drum for announcement of the results. Well done Mel!  We're voting for you, as are our parents, grandparents, children, their teachers, friends, clients, pets, neighbours...... All in the name of competition, of course!

tictoc Glasgow gets a makeover and a Wii!

There's all sorts of developments going on here (to say nothing of wallpapering the toilets with back issues of the Broons and Oor Wullie - legendary Scots comics to keep you entertained!!) to make sure the tictoc Family are all happy in their workspace - the Developers requested plants for their office which were duly provided - little do they know it's down to them to look after them!!

We also felt lunchtimes were just not challenging enough so have invested in a Wii to add to the daily fun and games here at tictoc Glasgow! Here's Tom and Alan, watched closely by Andrew and Colin, playing a quick round of Golf before heading back to an afternoon of developing!

  • Bill, IDEO and the RSA

The tictoc London office went off on a trip to see Bill Moggridge, founder of world-famous design business IDEO, and interactive design guru, give a lecture titled ‘Designing Interactions’ at the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) last night. Aside from the beautiful surroundings, the thing that most stuck in our minds was Bill’s comment that ‘everything that can be beautiful will be’. Bill also showed a short film of Tim Mott, the creator of the ‘desktop’, coming up with the original idea on the back of a napkin. It proves that great ideas not only come from anywhere, but at any time and place.

  • A day in the life of the tictoc developers

    Watch the video on YouTube.

Hard at work eating biscuits and drinking coffee. A frame was captured every 10 seconds using an excellent little program called Gawker. The music is a track called PWSteal.Ldpinch.D from the Aphex Twin's latest album Chosen Lords.
