Scary seagull flocks to the Buz Dev window!

So here we are, myself, Kate and Sarah, on a Monday morning getting stuck into the new business week when a huge (and they do seem very large when flying straight at your window!) seagull decided to drop in to say hello!!

Quite a surreal moment up here in the 3rd floor office with a pretty teeny ledge!

Up on the roof

You may already have heard that our brand new London office boasts fantastic meeting rooms, and some great green credentials like a wormery, herb garden, and recycling scheme. We're also pretty excited about the roof top garden, complete with outdoor sofas.

Sure, it looks a bit grey, and wintery now, but we're looking forward to lots of meetings outside come summer. Who's up for a barbie?

Tonight Matthew I’m going to be...

Now that I’m into my second week here at tictoc and have already met everyone in the office I thought I should introduce myself to the rest of the world via the blog. Hello world!

My name is Paul, I like the web, design, designing, development, developing, drawing, music, ice hockey, football, playing music, making music, playing ice hockey, playing football, macs, my iphone (currently addicted to actually), food, eating food, drinking (to stay hydrated obviously), tv (particularly Curb your Enthusiasm, Lost, The Simpsons and South Park), movies, most other things to be honest.

10 years of tictoc

We're all grown up from our humble beginnings back in 1999 when the Power Mac G4 was the talk of the creative town and email was still somewhat unheard of! Now we're in double figures (as my Granny used to say!) so can start staying up after 9 oclock and all the talk is in weird jargon like UX and tweeting!

We had a few half lager shandies on Friday night and some haggis neeps n tatties to mark this momentous occasion and have created a nice widget on the tictoc homepage to celebrate these past hectic years!

Top tweeter Kate's just soooo polite!

Having spotted a tweet of Kate's yesterday I felt I had to pop a comment on the tictoc blog about the fact that she has made the top 60 Scottish Tweeters list and, as I'm sure those who know her will agree, has been quoted very accurately!

The people were picked on the basis of how often they tweet, the quality of tweets, how often they retweet and followers (not the number of followers but who their followers were). Here's the quote from the site :

Heralding in a new era

tictoc is the subject of today's SME Focus in The Herald (that's p23 for those of you with the paper version), as our very own Mel Russell sat down with the boys from the press to answer their questions and give them an insight into the joys and growing pains of running a digital agency.

Their questions were tough and cut straight to the heart of the matter, and we think she did a great job of answering them. Plus, her dad said he thought she was very refreshing and didn't give the stock answers you see most weeks. So there.

If you want to know more about Mel's days as a florist, or exactly what she thought when she opened the front door to a wall of floodwater, you only have to ask: now's your chance!

Grow Your Own

So, for the first time ever, I've been trying my hand at growing my own veg. I've already had a crop of spinach, the chard is coming along nicely, but last night was my piece de resistance - I picked and cooked my first home-grown courgettes! As you can see, they're not weedy in any way, and they tasted delicious - and there are loads more to come! I also have lots of courgette flowers, which I'm planning to either stuff with ricotta and cook, or deep fry in a light batter. Italian delicacy I believe! So, in a few weeks when I am sick of courgette soup, courgette casserole, and courgette for breakfast, and you want to try some, let me know!

Handbags at dawn!

On my way to a morning meeting I unexpectedly passed Mimi Berry's shop on Cheshire Street, just off Brick Lane. Mimi has a beautiful collection of designer bags and purses, which she also sells online at www.mimiberry.co.uk. (Yes, tictoc designed the site, glad you like it!). It just so happens they have a sale on right now, so I had to pop back later on to say hi, and suss out the bags.

Personally, I'm coveting the Domino - strokey strokey soft in perfect dove grey. What are your favourites girls?

Frabulous fractals

tictoc's Technical Director Tom Beddard will be demonstrating how to create mathematical and generative art on a Mac. The pic above is one of Tom's creations. As an ex-physicist, fractals are one of Tom's specialist subjects. Actually, he has many specialist subjects, and I don't understand what fractals have to do with physics, but that's why I'm going to the talk - it's all about the edukashun, innit.
